Pros: effective, horses like it, durable
Comments: The first horse I used this on was a POA mare with 'bit issues.' She wasn't dangerous, no rearing or bolting, but she was very stubborn and unresponsive, and stiff as a board. Her transitions were terrible, she wouldn't steer at all, she was constantly trying to pull the reins out of your hands and leaned on the bit when you asked her to do anything. The first time I used it on her she was like a different pony. Her gaits were smoother, her transitions were easier, she wasn't pulling on the reins, and she could actually bend!(before, she was so stiff, her neck was literally rock hard to the touch)I now use the dr. cook bitless bridle with most of my horses and I started my QH filly with it, and I've never ridden her with anything else. Last winter she started tossing her head and not steering, but once I had her teeth done she was fine; other than that she's never shown any resistance to the bitless bridle at all.

Beta is particularly popular with trail and endurance riders, since the material requires no maintenance and can be subjected to virtually any conditions without being affected. Beta is a leather like synthetic composed of a nylon core with a vinyl coating and is a little heavier than nylon. It is impervious to dirt and sweat, and will give you years of use with no maintenance required. The material stays supple in freezing weather and doesn't dry out or get brittle with age. Beta is durable and easy to clean - just dunk in a bucket of water, swish around and hang to dry. It has a slightly grainy and low-sheen surface, which gives it a leather like appearance. To measure:
Noseband: Measure 1 1/2" to 2" up from the corner of the horse's mouth. From that point, measure the circumference of the horse's nose.
Headstall: From the same point (1 1/2" - 2" up from the corner of the horse's mouth), run your tape measure to the very top of the poll (to the point right between the ears) and double that measurement number. This will determine the size headstall your horse needs.
