I got this to replace the chain, carabiner, and eyebolt latch “system” that I was using for my main gate. (It’s the type of metal tube gate that came with a long chain.) The gate closes to a wooden fence post.
This item comes with a long enough chain that I can wrap it around the gate frame and into the slot where the chain that comes with it would go if I were closing the gate to a freestanding post. It also comes with a bolt and nut, I assume for attaching a link to a woodframe gate. I, of course, am not using that.
And it comes with an enormous fence staple. I considered continuing to use the eyebolt, but decided to use the staple provided, pounded into the 4 x 4 wood post that I close the gate to.
It is much easier to use than a carabiner, and just as secure. I’m very happy with it. Oh, and it is bright and shiny, not galvanized, for anyone who might be concerned with that.
