About the author, D.H. Anderson. Working with horses for the last 30 years is more than just a hobby; its a way of life. Donna grew up just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, near Waterdam Farm, the Lady Thistle book series setting. Donna loves and cares for five horses on her property, inspiring her to document their chronicles as a picture book series with the hope of sharing a peek into the equine world through real-life stories. Before jumping into equestrian writing, Donna earned her BA from the University of Pittsburgh and has worked as an Organizational Development Leader for a 300-bed hospital. Her life experiences have led her toward a love of literature and writing and a belief in the importance of quality, fun, and educational childrens stories. Her goal with the Lady Thistle book series is to encourage children toward a lifelong love of horses and literature.

Based on a true story, this book is a tribute to Lady Thistle and the beginning of her adventures. Lady Thistle is just days old-and the sounds and smells inside the cozy stable at Waterdam Farm-keep her curious.As she gains strength, her human family decides it's time to show her another world-and let her experience life outside the stall-alongside her mother, Polly. The beautiful flowers, buzzing bees, and swooping birds are incredible! She's brave and ready to start exploring. But as she feels more courageous and trots away from her mom, Lady Thistle quickly learns that staying close will keep her out of danger.
